As I awoke this morning I paused to think about the events that took place
during last year at Saint Mary Magdalene. New friends that entered the
church for the first time, old friends that are no longer with us. A new
Presiding Bishop, Bishop Elect, Vicar and
Deacon
to lead us in our journey. Births and deaths. The inevitable cycles of human
existence. While change is something with which we are all familiar, the
speed with which changes occur can be frightening.
Yet, at the same time, it is comforting to think that, superimposed on our human cycle of months and years is the church calendar. Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost and Ordinary Time, each with their own lessons and joys. A cycle which links us to Christians of the last 2 millennia and leads into the future where other Christians will continue our work. Much may change, but there are some things which we can count on to be eternal.
The best to you and your families in the coming year.
Your friend in Christ
